Choosing
a material
Is there a Ma's material for you, whatever your surface?
There is no need to pay exorbitant costs to remove your old coating/covering. Ma’s materials, in particular waxed concretes and decorative coatings, can be applied on any type of surface, including old tiles, and will measure less than 5 mm thick.
This guarantees a cleaner working area and will not disrupt your day-to-day life.
A few questions you should ask yourself
- Am I looking at one or more rooms? Inside or outside? A “dry” room (bedroom, living room, etc.) or a “wet” room (kitchen, bathroom)?
- What matters most to you: comfort or strength/resistance? The decorative aspect or insulation and soundproofing?
- Would you like to change your surroundings: increase the size of a room that is a little narrow or, inversely, create a feeling of intimacy? Does your room need light?
Contact your normal craftsman or one of our qualified craftsmen. Map out your project together. Our network of specialist kitchen, bathroom and interior designers, are here to help from the moment you begin thinking about a change.

How can I add light and heighten the feeling of space?
Do light colours visually increase the impression of space? Yes, even more so if you use “cold” colours: blue, turquoise, grey-blue, blue-lilac, green, blue-green, etc. They add depth by creating a feeling of detachment. We have designed a special training programme to help you make your choices: the harmony of decorative colours.
All Ma’s materials are available in a wide range of shades. For example, our decorative concretes come in 72 colours, our resins come in 200 shades and our mineral paints have more than 300 shades. Colours can also be tailor-made.
The choice of “material effects” also plays a decisive role in the “feel” of a room. For example, a “mirror effect” resin or a gloss varnish applied on a silicate coat or a concrete, will reflect light. And if the light is coming from a natural source, the appearance of the room will change depending on the time and the season.

What should I use for a “wet” room?
There are more things to consider when choosing your bathroom floor than for the walls: you stand on it with bare feet, and you are the only one who can tell us what type of feel you prefer.
For your floor, think safety: it should not be dangerously slippery, even though it may feel soft. Smooth finish mortar, one of our decorative concretes, is perfect for wet rooms.
On walls, on the other hand, you have more freedom. The only things you should not use are porous and flaky materials, namely waxed plaster coating and lime coating. In a wet environment, you may also prefer to use Ma's satin finish paint (washable).

What you need to know for “healthy” room
Known for its bactericidal properties, lime also allows humidity to be released from walls. A definite benefit for a healthy environment, enhanced by a concrete floor finished with natural wax, which is preferable to carpets with a reputation for trapping dust. With a concrete floor, lime walls and doors and skirting boards finished with solvent-free mineral paint, any room is guaranteed to be “healthy”. Perfect for those suffering from allergies.
