Smooth finish mortar (Waxed concrete)
Initially used for large floor areas in industrial premises and subsequently for lofts, the composition and formulation of waxed concrete have been developed to produce a coating that combines robustness with aesthetic qualities. At 2 mm thick, it can easily be used to cover a wide range of both new and renovated surfaces: floors, walls, work surfaces, walk-in showers, swimming pools, etc.
Slightly granular, somewhere between sand and powder, MA’s waxed concrete is a smooth finish mortar. It is full of the surprises normally provided by organic materials.
It works like a natural material when a clear shade is chosen to evoke the purity of Le Touquet sand; a hot red or an earthy brown will recreate the atmosphere of a Moroccan riad. It can be used to subtly decorate the interior of a room devoted to well-being. Used with celadon greens, it is reminiscent of bamboo, creating a Japanese zen-style surrounding.
In contrast to these « natural » worlds, and because waxed concrete is able to capture the light, you can bring out the ultra-modern architectural character of Ma’s smooth finish mortar by using it with shades of grey. With sparkling flecks, it creates a designer finish and brings rooms to life. It is hard wearing when varnished and, for use in kitchens, will resist grease and acid.
As a technical material, it can be worked like aged concrete. Our skilled craftsmen work subtly with their application tools to make the grey darker and lighter in places, creating a shimmering result.
As a top of the range product, our smooth finish mortar (waxed concrete) can be used to create sophisticated contrasts thanks to tailor-made inlays. Flakes, for those seeking sophistication, fine metal, a patina or a « liquor » (pigments soaked in water) penetrate the material randomly, giving it depth. However, if, on the contrary, it is the starkness of rock you are looking for, our skilled craftsmen will inlay specks of mica, like those found in a glistening stone or the inside of a shell.
For interior floors, and depending on the desired effect, there is another product: interior self-levelling mortar.
