Installing waxed concrete on a plasterboard wall

You can easily apply waxed concrete on a plasterboard wall (also known as plasterboard, BA10, BA13, BA15, BA18, BA25, etc).

Plasterboard is a surface which has the advantage of being perfectly planebut with the disadvantage that seals interrupt this surface and can cause reliefs or differences in appearance during drying.

In fact, the layer of waxed or mural concrete will have a millimetric thickness any underlying relief, any difference inmoisture absorption (especially at joints between plates) may be reflected on the surface.

To smooth out the joints, we lay flatness strips or, preferably, a full plasterto fill imperfections and homogenize the surface. This coating is then very lightly sanded, before being coated with a white wall primerthen wall concrete or lime.

PREPARATION AND APPLICATION OF WALL CONCRETE

Step 1: Component B + Blush

  • Roll the bucket of component B on the ground to aerate and soften the material before mixing.
  • Open the component B bucket and make a slight indentation in the center of the base.
  • Shake the BLUSH concentrate jar, open it and pour the entire contents into the hollow of the base.
  • Block the bucket with your feet, and mix the base and concentrate dry, at low speed (like a Collomix double turbine mixer). Be careful not to spill any out of the bucket. Accelerate gradually.
  • Continue mixing, using straight and slanted vertical and lateral movements to perfectly blend the contents. Pay particular attention to the edges and bottom of the jar, so as not to miss those corners that are most difficult to mix. When mixing for the first time, we advise you to pour the mixed contents into a bucket of the same size, so as to visually check the quality of the mix and repeat it if necessary. Mixing time should not be less than 1 minute.

Stage 2: Component A + mixture

  • Homogenize component B well, then introduce the mixture (component A + concentrate).
  • Mix until smooth and lump-free.

Note: the dry storage life of the dry mixture (component B+ BLUSH concentrate) is not impaired if the buckets are closed and stored under the recommended normal conditions.

Apply 2 thin coats, playing with effects with the application tools to give a random look to the decor. Note that when you apply the second layer, effects such as color are reinforced if you press hard on the tool. The wall varnish will not only achieve the target color, but also protect the rendering.

Rough finish: simply allow to dry. The shade will be light.

Velvety finish: Rub the rendering with a slightly damp cement sponge to bring out the laitance. The aim of this finish is to achieve a very homogeneous overall appearance with few mottles.

Warning: the tint will be lightened by the use of water.

APPLICATION

Apply in 1 thick coat without trying to achieve a decorative effect. Allow to dry for at least 12 hours (at 20°C and 60% HR).

The aim is to obtain a mass layer which can then be completely sanded with 40-grit sandpaper. When sanding, take care not to expose the substrate.

Decoration takes place during sanding.

After sanding, you can apply a coat of wood stain in the same color as the concrete wall, adjusting the dilution to achieve the desired decorative effect.

The glaze is applied with a sheepskin glove, playing with irregular, dabbing and wiping effects.

Any excess can be wiped off with a clean cloth, for an aesthetically pleasing visual effect.

The concrete surface can be left rough or protected with a coat of wall protection varnish for a matt effect, or two coats for a silky matt effect. Allow to dry for at least 4 hours (at 20°C and 60% HR).

You can repeat the application of woodstain after the first coat of varnish to reveal the material effects. Note that you can also change the color and play with the color of the substrate and the color of the stain. As wall concrete is a product with a wide range of possible effects and appearances, we advise you to carry out preliminary tests to validate the aesthetic result desired by the customer.

TOOL CLEANING

Clean equipment with water and abrasive pad after use.
